Hey Guys! Over time I have come to learn that, keeping it simple is the ultimate secret when it comes to skin care.
Before we jump into this skin care post, check out my YouTube channel for my first video of the year. In this video I share how to set smart goals. You should subscribe to my channel. OK, enough shameless self promotion.
Having flawless skin is everyone’s dream. Sadly after spending thousands of Kenya Shillings and Qatari Riyals, I discovered that simplicity is the secret. After a lot of trial and error, I discovered that a simple regime transcends the most expensive of products. Share this post with your friends before they fall into the trap over being product junkies! Let’s get into it!
Simple Skin Care Routine
1.Remove your makeup
This is very important my country people (insert Tekno’s voice). While it might seem obvious to all of us, to some, like me who get lazy, I discovered a simple remedy. Using Extra Virgin Olive Oil or Virgin Coconut oil, apply a generous amount over your makeup. Yes, All over it. Using your finger tips, work it. Rub,rub, rub. This will help breakdown your makeup enabling you to wipe off your makeup. Remember, you are not limited to which oil you use, just make sure it is organic. Or you could simply get a makeup remover. Try This one if you don’t mind the kaching $$ involved
Note: I know many people have different things to say about black soap but if you do a patch test and find that it does not excessively dry you out, this baby removes everything!
2. Cleanse
Something might lie to you that after removing your makeup, you are all set. RESIST! You skins needs more TLC. Follow up with a gentle cleanser. Now the formulation in most cleansers is almost always the same, so relax and get a brand that works for you. I am currently using cetaphil gentle cleanser, not for any particular reason, the had me at “GENTLE”
3. Exfoliate
Now, here is where the word simple becomes especially relevant. You can make a gentle scrub with items right in your kitchen. Most noteworthy is this oatmeal and honey scrub I added to my routine when trying to combat hormonal acne.
Mix 2 tablespoons of oatmeal with one tablespoon of honey and a teaspoon of lime juice (optional, but if you are extra, why not?).
Apply this mix on your face and rub it in. Your senses will be pleased and your skin will love you but after 15-20 minuted, please honey wash it off.
You can follow here by a facial oil like I do on most days. I use organic argan oil and go on with my life. When I am off duty I go the full nine yards.

4. Mask
We are keeping it simple, yet paying special attention to our different skin types as we set up our skin care routines. I do not wear a mask so often, however the one that humored me the most and still gave me excellent results has to be the egg white mask. Just whisk egg whites and add a dash of lemon and apply on your face. After 10 minutes, try to laugh…
I also discovered these Sephora Sheet masks that are also awesome and get the job done without the mess. It is important to do research on the ingredients and their effects or possible side effects before trying anything. I suggest a 24hrs skin patch before incorporating any new mask in your routine.
5. Moisturize
Since simplicity is our focus, use a moisturizer that has water (Most of the times it will be referred to as Aqua) as part of its ingredients. Furthermore, I would go for a natural product just to play it safe. Consequently, I use pure Argan oil. Since having Princess, I decided to ditch store bought moisturizers and opted for natural alternatives as a result, my acne cleared significantly. I don’t know if the two are related.
In addition to simplifying your skincare routine, work on improving your overall health for great benefits.
- Drinking more water
- Reduce your sugar intake
- Eat more green leafy vegetables
- Reduce your stress levels through fun-filled activities like window shopping or Creating positive mood boards on Pinterest (Check out mine where I already have TJs Party Ideas) should do the trick.
As always my precious people, let me know how you are taking care of your skin.
Remember, Spread a little Joy!!
